THE NEXT CHAPTER

Your local authority.
A bigger digital future.

Your journalism is the asset. A purpose-built platform can make it easier to discover, better to read and more valuable to local advertisers.

Experience the new homepage ↗

01 / THE OPPORTUNITY WE CAN SEE

Good content deserves a stronger platform.

230 KB

A heavy page template.

About 230 KB of the homepage’s 304 KB uncompressed HTML is inline CSS. There are also 24 external script tags. A focused frontend can reduce this overhead; speed gains must be measured.

First visit

News behind a popup.

A newsletter overlay appeared during our first visit, covering the lead stories. At 1280 px, Contact wrapped to a second navigation row. Both interrupt a clear first impression.

The reader

Accessibility needs attention.

All 20 homepage image tags lack meaningful alt text, including editorial photos. The viewport requests disabled zoom. Improvements can make the publication easier to use.

Public sample: homepage + 3 articles, 5 September 2026. Image descriptions must distinguish editorial content from decorative images. This is not a full security audit, a measured revenue loss or a Core Web Vitals result.

02 / WHAT WE KEEP

A fresh experience. An archive worth protecting.

The current site already has canonical URLs, metadata, sitemaps, structured article data and a CDN. Those are valuable foundations. The proposal builds on them and keeps the publication’s content at the centre.

03 / A PLATFORM FOR YOUR PUBLICATION

Designed around how your team actually works.

01
A newsroom, not a page builder.

Drafts, review, scheduled publishing, revisions, authors, photo credits and reusable story formats.

02
A homepage your editors control.

Lead stories, section order, local hubs, curated collections and seasonal coverage.

03
Advertising as a managed product.

Placement rules, campaign dates, creative approval, labelled sponsorships and reporting.

04
Search and discovery built in.

Fast archive search, geographic topics, relevant stories, newsletters and saved reading.

05
Technical SEO and clear entities.

Server-rendered content, exact URLs, validated schema, authors, publisher identity and source references.

06
Clear ownership and ongoing care.

Source code, content exports, documentation, backups, monitoring and an agreed maintenance plan.

04 / MORE WAYS TO CREATE COMMERCIAL VALUE

Sell relevance, not just empty rectangles.

Premium placements

Offer homepage and category sponsorship with protected layout space, frequency limits and a mobile creative. Track impressions, viewability and clicks.

Local business discovery

Build useful hotel, dining, property and services profiles. Clearly label paid visibility and measure qualified enquiries instead of promising reach.

A direct reader relationship

Connect newsletters and local event coverage to relevant sponsorship packages. Keep commercial content clearly separate from editorial decisions.

฿12,000 / monthIllustrative gross display revenue, before costs.
Not measured traffic, market pricing, a forecast or incremental revenue.

Model: pageviews × opportunities per page × fill rate × CPM ÷ 1,000. Assumes each opportunity can produce a served impression; ad blocking, eligibility, measurement loss, fees and costs can reduce the outcome. Replace assumptions with actual inventory and sales data before planning.

05 / MIGRATION WITH ACCEPTANCE GATES

Keep the addresses. Protect the details.

A different engine.
The same front door.

The domain and exact article paths can stay unchanged. Existing image addresses can continue resolving even after WordPress is retired.

Media path retained

No migration can guarantee zero search volatility. Risk is reduced through complete mapping, parity checks, monitoring and a tested rollback.

  1. Inventory every content and media record. Establish search and traffic baselines.
  2. Import articles, media, dates, authors, SEO fields, captions, categories and internal links.
  3. Keep exact paths. Map unavoidable changes with a single permanent redirect to the equivalent page.
  4. Validate all known URLs, media checksums, canonicals and content before launch.
  5. Sync final editorial changes. Launch with backups, monitoring and a rollback decision owner.
  6. Track crawling, 404s, index coverage and organic landing pages after launch.

06 / CHOOSE THE PRODUCT, NOT THE BUZZWORD

Custom is a strategic choice. Not a magic cure.

WordPress remains maintained. There is no basis here for claiming its plugins will soon stop working. The case for a rebuild is the publication’s specific product needs, ownership and total cost of care. Google’s AI search features rely on established SEO foundations; there is no special schema that guarantees inclusion.

THE NEXT CONVERSATION

Make the website as valuable as the journalism.

Agree the editorial and advertising priorities, review the archive and analytics, then define a migration-tested build scope with clear acceptance criteria and a maintenance commitment.

Back to the homepage concept ↗

Today’s deliverable is a private homepage prototype with 13 standalone article pages, source text and lead photographs. Full CMS, archive migration, ad serving and live newsletter integrations are proposed production work.
